The USS Nautilus (SSN 571) is pictured here entering New York Harbor in the late 1950’s.
Nautilus was the world’s first nuclear powered submarine. She was also the world’s first ship to reach the geographic North Pole.

USS Buffalo (SSN 713)

USS BUFFALO (SSN 713) a 1st flight SSN 688 Class submarine executing an emergency blow. Emergency blows are used for rapid ascent to the surface in the event of a flooding casualty and are practiced often by U.S. Navy submarine crews to prepare for such an emergency.
USS Gurnard (SSN 662)
at the North Pole
USS Gurnard, a Sturgeon -class submarine, was built at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. She was launched in May of 1967.
While not the first trip to the North pole, this painting was taken from a photo capturing the ship surfacing in 1984.

USS Texas (SSN 775) is a Virginia Class submarine. She was christened in July of 2004. In 2009, Texas will be moved to a new home port in Pearl Harbor.
